Description

The autumn performance that was shown regardless of the huge ecomonical damage the typhoon had had on “Sumera Daikogan.” Hijikata, seeing the Dairakudakan attendants desperately pulling on the head end power cars that were being washed away during the “Sumera Daikogan” performances, gave it its name.

 “Hijikata said it had to be ‘Danniku Monogatari (story of men’s flesh)’ and wrote the title in Chinese characters. After the shows, I went to the disco to recruit female members for Dairakudakan with Ushio Amagatsu, and we met students from Kokushikan University’s karate club at the washrooms. I was interested in their style, leather jackets and shaved heads, and we told them about how we were doing dance performances. They expressed strong interest in that, so we told them ‘You all should come along, too,’ and Captain Otsuka brought the whole bunch from the karate club. Maro said, ‘Let's put them in a performance.’ We drew a picture of Mt. Fuji behind everyone and had them perform as extras. The Japanese literary academic Osamu Matsuda was so happy. And while we were happily doing this, each person’s individuality started branching out, and at first Bishop Yamada started the Hoppo Butoh Ha at Tsuruoka in Tohoku as a branch.”
