We will continue hosting in Tokyo the Ko Murobushi exhibition “A New Encounter with Ko Murobushi ‘Faux Pas’”, originally presented at the ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival 2025.
In 1968, an encounter with Tatsumi Hijikata, the founder of Butoh, prompted Ko Murobushi to step into the realm of dance. His body gradually diverged from established forms and boundaries, quietly yet decisively, as he moved between Japan and abroad, forging a singular artistic territory.
This exhibition focuses on his early activities from the 1970s to the 1980s, tracing the trajectory of his explorations through photographs, videos, posters, and texts. What emerges is a mode of corporeality that continues to question beyond form, opening onto an expressive horizon that remains connected to the present.
