Basile Doganis is a Greek-French director-screenwriter who spent several years in Japan during his studies in Philosophy. After directing 2 fiction shorts in France, His Brother’s Keeper (2012) and Citizen Day (2014), he completed in 2018 his first feature film Meltem, and a 10-year-long documentary on late dancer Kō Murobushi, Alterations / Kō Murobushi.
Born in 1967. PhD in French literature. Lecturer at Rikkyo University and various other institutions. Written works include Bataille: The Cursed Thinker (Kawade Shobo), Georges Bataille’s Aesthetics of the Formless (Suiseisha), and Takuma Nakahira: The Photographer Who Lost His Memory (TK). Translator of Georges Bataille’s Le Coupable, Somme athéologique II, Documents (Kawade Bunko), and Manet (Getsuyosha), as well as Georges Didi-Huberman’s Devant l’image: Questions posées aux fins d'une histoire de l'art (Hosei University Press). Co-translator of Georges Bataille’s L’apprenti sorcier: textes, correspondances et documents (Chikumashobo) and Gilles Deleuze’s Cinéma II: L'image-temps (Hosei University Press).
