2012
It has been forty years since I met Murobushi, and I am pleased to welcome him to this event in Kamakura.
I have many thoughts regarding Murobushi, but above all, I feel that his body and his dance bring a certain “intensity” to my life, or that there is a terminal form of Butoh that was created by a drift of the Japanese archipelago in the far east.
I always allege that “Butoh” belonged solely to Tatsumi Hijikata, and that it was lost once he passed away. Yet, I suddenly feel as if I see the ancestral form of Butoh in a space between time and his body when I see Ko Murobushi’s performance.
Today, the autumn blue sky stretches overhead, wind occasionally blowing past me.
Forty years of time have certainly passed.
