2001
A head-to-head performance by two masters of improvisation. The performance fulfilled its expectations initially, but consequently, it failed a little in some ways. For his improvisational performances, Murobushi would always prepare a trap for himself to avoid mannerism and total improvisation. For example, one of the traps is to wait. The following is just an impression from a member of the audience: Yamazaki, whose body became more flushed as he danced and deviated, did not impose on Murobushi, perhaps out of his respect for the senior dancer. On the other hand, Murobshi, who waited for Yamazaki’s offense, did not provoke Yamazaki either. It felt unsatisfying seeing them not getting involved with each other, despite the stimulation in their separate performances, and it made one realize how difficult it is to perform improvisation.
