2003
A performance undertaken in a project paying homage to Hijikata called “Hijikata Memorial,” also serving as the first performance of Ko&Edge, which consisted of Murobushi and three young dancers. “Handsome blue sky” was adapted from a collection of Hijikata’s literary remains. The brass plates were perceived as a quotations from ”Revolt of the Body”; however, they were not simply part of the stage set, but also placed on the stage as opponents = dance partners for dancers.
(K.S)
Men disintegrate
With heated breath, they fall down
Falling down, beating their bones
Nothing else
Nothing will happen…
Only the melody for annihilation is played
Is it possible to create a dance of cruelty and comicalness?
Desperately distorting
Obsessively transforming the body of the self
Sweating while naked
For the sake of uselessness
A victory does not win, so neither does it lose
No—a loss itself does win
Pain and weakness are what becomes power
For Ko Murobushi’s “Handsome blue sky”
