About

A glimpse of Murobushi’s concept can be seen from related writings for his unfinished production “Nijinski à minuit” that he left behind. The themes of “outside” and “zero degree” written in his notes are tied to Mallarme and Nietzsche’s ideas of the “midnight.”

Murobushi thought that the transition from Nijinsky to Nijinsky at midnight is the core of Butoh as “féroce désœuvrement”; it is for this reason that we, in the unprecedented space and time that is attacking us, must look closely at the things he thought about together with his “spasm” and unravel them both physically and linguistically.

For that, we travel to “Midnight.”

In the first part, we will be continuing the conversation from the symposium "Ko Murobushi and « féroce désœuvrement »” held in 2019 as well as “transit," held following the postponement of this project in 2020, online.
In the second part, with Bernardo Montet as the choreographer, we will be reading Ko Murobushi's “Nijinski à minuit” while seeking a new interpretation and publish the process as a video work.

I don’t think. Without thinking,
I will dance “Faun” of Mallarmé,
no, Nijinsky’s “Faun”, not imitate it.
But only about “midnight” will I add my thoughts.
