Susumu Kihara
Born in 1975 in Tokyo. After graduating from the Faculty of Arts at Tama Art University in 1998, Susumu worked as a full-time artist in overseeing the production, exhibition, and sales of artwork. He assisted with management at Yotsuya Art Stadium and Haizuka Earthworks Project and served as production supervisor for the exhibition “Retrospective Strata” (2019 - 2020, Toyota Municipal Museum of Art). In 2021, he established Umenoki Art & Cultural Design Ltd., a company that supports the use of cutting-edge technology, the building of archives, and the production of art and culture. Susumu then completed his program at the Institute for Solidarity-based Society at Hosei University in 2023, conducting research on the solidarity of the art field through the theory and practices of cooperatives. Major essays and papers include “The Boulder of Sisyphus: Unfinished Architecture (Sagrada Familia),” “Pasazerka: Art as an Intermediary for Recognizing the World,” “The Cooperative Model of Art Workers: Contribution of Solidarity towards the Work Environment of Art Workers in Contemporary Art,” etc. Currently a part of Art Project and the Art User Conference.
